Despite throwing four no-hit innings Sunday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Francisco Liriano will likely begin the season in the minors.
Nothing is official yet, but the Twins are expected to option Philip Humber to Triple-A while keeping Brian Bass as a long reliever, which leaves Liriano without a spot on the 12-man staff. While he was impressive Sunday, Liriano is clearly still at less than 100 percent after missing all of last season following Tommy John surgery. His stay in the minors figures to be a short one if he puts together several strong outings in a row, but letting him prove that his stuff is back in a low-pressure environment is a smart move.
I have no problem with this move as we aren't likely going anywhere this year, so lets take our time with Liriano. Get his confidence back up and let him work on his pitches some more.
