According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Carlos Gomez will be the Twins' starting center fielder.
There was never much doubt once the Twins decided not to sign a veteran center fielder, and Gomez beat out fellow prospects Denard Span and Jason Pridie for the job. Span, Pridie and Brian Buscher are all headed to Triple-A, with Matt Tolbert claiming a bench job. Gomez figures to struggle at the plate and will be miscast as a leadoff hitter, but has the speed to swipe 50-plus bases if he plays every day and is suddenly a very nice fantasy sleeper.
(That is from
www.rotoworld.com as it the one below this)..
Twins optioned RHP Philip Humber, OF Denard Span, OF Jason Pridie and 1B/3B Brian Buscher to Triple-A Rochester.
Brian Bass beat out Humber for a long-relief gig, with Span and Pridie failing to beat out Carlos Gomez for the starting job in center field. The Twins predictably chose to keep utility infielder Matt Tolbert over Buscher, who has a better bat and a weak glove.
