Gardy says he certainly doesn't teach players to slide head first into base but he can't stop them from doing it. My question is why not? it is obviously more detrimental to the club (injuries) than advantageous (he's safe!) Pro player are not allowed to participate in other dangerous sports, why can't they be required to not slide into base head first?
I wonder if it helps them get to the bag faster or if it's just the reaction the players have. Either way, I agree. Everytime Go-Go slides head-first into second I hole my breath hoping he'll come up without the trainer running to the field.
