The Twins have went on a nine-game winning steak and swept the last three interleague series. With the current run, the Twins have moved seven games above five-hundred and stayed at the top of the AL Central.
What type of moves do you think the Twins should consider to better the team and help them make a run at the playoffs in 2008?
In my opinion, not many moves should be made. This team is eating everybody up but there could be a few moves.
Trade:
Hernandez - call up Liriano
Bonser - call up Mariano Gomez/Bobby Korecky
Lamb - call up Macri/Tolbert
and maybe
Monroe - why? Kubel takes over full time at DH and allows us to keep Span when Cuddyer comes off of the DL
Other than that, I would stay with everybody on our roster...I like the Rabbits: Gomez, Casilla, and Span batting 9, 1, 2...it really can rattle a pitcher when you have guys like that on base. When Cuddy comes back, it would be nice too to have Span on the bench to come in when you could use a fast player on the paths. Plus, Span could spell Gomez once in a while.
Rotation would be secure too. Actually right now, the only blemish in our starting rotation appears to be Livan. In July or August, we could have Baker (ace), Blackburn, Slowey, Liriano and Perkins in our starting rotation. Young guns with lots of potential! Yes, Livan is a good influence for these guys but I think come July it will be time to cut ties with him. With Liriano progressing at the AAA level, it is time for him to come back up. As Billy Smith said when asked about sending Slowey back down, "It is no use to have Slowey dominate at the AAA level, it is time for him to take his licks at the next level." And look what has happened. Slowey has been dominating recently.
That is all I have for moves. Trade Lamb though. Buscher is holding the fort and would do well if he had Macri to platoon with only when especially tough LH pitchers are on the mound.
I'd agree right now. What if Brian Roberts became fairly cheap, would you consider him? I don't think he'd be a bad option if you traded for him with the plan that Casilla goes to short and Harris/Punto/Buscher play third.
