Projections Review: Pitchers E-mail
Written by TwinsTerritory

We took a look back at how our hitters predictions lined up with reality, and now we’re going to look back at how the pitching predictions did.

As before, next to each question, and bolded, is the answer. In the parenthesis are all of the guesses.

With that, the pitchers.

Livan Hernandez:

Francisco Liriano:

Number of starts? 14 (26, 25, 28, 30)
Will he stay healthy? Yes (4 Yes)

Scott Baker:
Number of wins? 11 (13, 13, 12, 14)
ERA? 3.45 (4.15, 3.58, 3.47, 3.98)
Will he become the staff ace? Opinion (3 Yes, 1 No)

Joe Nathan:
Over/Under 30 saves? Over (4 Over)
ERA? 1.33 (1.75, 1.54, 1.67. 2.11)
How many blown saves? 6 (3, 2, 2, 2)

Pat Neshek:
How many innings? 13.1 (65, 72, 69.2, 78.2)
Number of strikeouts? 15 (75, 83, 83, 82)
All-Star? No (3 No)

Matt Guerrier:
Repeat ‘07 season? No (1 No, 3 Yes)
ERA? 5.19 (3.05, 2.87, 2.65, 2.88)
Will he lose his setup role? Yes (1 Yes, 3 No)

Jesse Crain:
Number of outings? 66 (50, 52, 65)
Wins? 5 (5, 4, 4)
Will he stay healthy all season? Yes (3 Yes)

Dennys Reyes:
DL Stints? 0 (1, 1, 1, 1)
Number of innings? 46.1 (55, 52, 56.1, 55)
Will the Twins need another lefty? Opinion (3 Yes, 1 No)

Juan Rincon:
Number of outings? 24 (70, 39, 42, 68)
ERA? 6.11 (3.25, 4.68, 2.87, 3.44)
Will he be traded? Released (2 Yes, 2 No)

Brian Bass:
Number of losses? 4 (5, 3, 4, 2)
ERA? 4.87 (3.90, 5.32, 3.29, 4.17)
Will he last the entire season? No (4 No)

Out of all of the predictions, there were two main players that we were really far off on. One of the players was Pat Neshek, and it’s understandable why his were so far off. After nearly making an All-Star game in ‘07, the expectations were high. However, an injury prevented him from getting anywhere close to the numbers guessed.

The other player was Boof Bonser. Not a single person thought he’d get moved to the bullpen, and we expected much better numbers from him based on our predictions.

For the most part, the rest where somewhat close, and a few guesses were spot on.
