Liriano Sharp Again E-mail
Written by TwinsTerritory
Tuesday, 20 May 2008

He may not be completely ready to make the jump back to the majors, but with his last few starts, Liriano is proving that things are getting better.

Today, Liriano took the hill for the first time since allowing three runs in eight innings, and more importantly, just walking one hitter.

In the outing today, Liriano lasted seven innings and looked sharp yet again. In his seven innings of work, Liriano struck out four hitters, allowed eight hits and just two runs. His control was right on again as he walked just one batter.

In his last fifteen innings of work, Liriano has allowed fifteen hits, five runs, and just two walks.

The Twins will likely want him to continue to pitch well at AAA, but it looks as though Liriano is getting very close to taking another shot at a major league comeback.

Tolbert Update
Matt Tolbert will indeed have surgery after a team doctor agreed with a previous doctor that he needs to go under the knife.

Tolbert likely won't resume baseball activities for two months, but he should return before season's end. It's a tough break for the rookie who was hitting .265 and looking to take over the starting second base job.

Another note: Carlos Gomez is back in the starting lineup after coming in late in yesterday's 7-6 victory.

Go Liriano

I cant wait for him to come back and prove to the Twins organization and fans that he is back (almost) to the 2006 Liriano.

It is too bad that Tolbert will be out that long but maybe a chance for Buscher to come up (after Clark is sent down) and prove that he belongs up here.

I can't wait to see Liriano again. They said he is throwing 91-93 pretty consistently too.

It'll be interesting to see how the roster shapes up when some players return from injuries.

Who will Baker replace? Will Casilla remain with the team?
