Game 37: Twins 7, Red Sox 3 E-mail

The Twins have won nine of their last ten games at the Metrodome after knocking off the Boston Red Sox in the series finale by a score of 7-3. Livan Hernandez took the mound and secured a 3-1 series win for the Twins with six solid innings of work. With the win, the Twins are now 20-17 overall on the season and still stand in first place in the American League Central.

Hernandez has had just one outing where he hasn't lasted at least six innings so far this season. He continued that trend in the finale lasting six innings and picking up his sixth victory. Livan's final line was six innings, ten hits, three runs and one strikeout. All three runs were allowed in the first inning, and after that point, the Red Sox were baffled as Hernandez cruised to a 6-1 record.

The bullpen picked up the final three innings, and thanks to Juan Rincon and Jesee Crain, the lead was held. Rincon lasted two innings and allowed no hits or runs and just one baserunner on a walk. Jesse Crain allowed two hits in the ninth, but on two pitches got David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez to flyout to end the game.

Offensively, the Twins were able to cut into the early Red Sox lead with two in the bottom half of the first. They also scored two in the third and three in the fifth to take the lead and then pull away. Craig Monroe had a big two-RBI double, and Delmon Young also collected two RBI on the night.
