Speedy Gomez E-mail

From Joe C:

"Carlos Gomez opened the game with a bunt single to second baseman Russ Adams, who charged the ball and didn’t even have time to make a throw. Gomez stole second base on the next pitch from A.J. Burnett, moved to third on Nick Punto’s textbook bouncer to first and scored on an infield single by Delmon Young."

And...

"Everett led off the fifth inning with a double, and Gomez followed with a run-scoring triple. Pure entertainment. In a move-him-over situation, Gomez swings and misses with another huge hack. But he goes on to hit a ball down the right-field line, off the end of the bat. The ball landed just fair and spun into foul territory."

Also, check out some of Gomez's quotes.

You can continue below this post to get the notes from both games today, but I wanted to add this post in so you could get a better fell of how Carlos Gomez played today.

Cocky Gomez

I love the quotes by Gomez....I am glad he is very c**ky and confident that he will win that spot. That is very true. If you can put on a speedy runner such as Gomez, Mauer, Young, and Moreau will see so many fastballs middle-in, and we all know that Morneau can hit them smilies/smiley.gif I say give the starting CF spot to Gomez and then give a bench spot to Casilla so that way we have two guys in the roster capable of stealing 40 bases a year...50 for Gomez.

Yes, this season may ride on the backs of Young and Morneau but it could very well be because we have two speedsters at the top and bottom of the lineup (hopefully by the end of ST they will be capable of getting on) who are capable of installing fear into the heart of the pitcher whenever they get on.
Gomez, Casilla, Buscher

I agree 100% with your plan to give Gomez the CF spot and Casilla a bench spot.

In addition, I'd like to let Nick Punto go and give Brian Buscher a spot as well.
Buscher

Yes, absolutely....let Punto go, as Casilla can fill his role and be better at the plate than little nick.

Buscher, I think, deserves a spot on the roster. He has made significant strides this offseason to perfect his fielding and also has taken on a new postion: 1B. He looks entirely under control at the plate and shows the power that has been raved about by the coaching staff. I think he deserves a spot.

What about Randy Ruiz? Think he deserves a spot with what he has done this spring?

I dont know if I would let Monroe go, as he has shown better production than last year...but I think Ruiz should get a shot, maybe start in AAA then come up later in the season, maybe after the all-star break...
Yeah...

Ruiz has really came out of nowhere and done a very nice job.

It'll be interesting to see who gets that final bench spot. Gardenhire said something about Jones having a good chance because he 'doesn't have any more options left'.

That would make me pretty mad if that is the only reason they take him north.
