No Game, Liriano Updates E-mail
Written by TwinsTerritory

The Twins were supposed to play a game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays today, but weather prevented the game from finishing. The Twins played just four innings, and were leading 3-0 in the fourth when the umpires called the game due to rain.

Boof Bonser had already pitched his three innings of work, and all three were scoreless. So far this spring Bonser has shown that the loss of weight is making a difference going five innings with no runs allowed. After Bonser, Blackburn reportedly pitched a scoreless inning as well.

There are no stats, but word is that Denard Span was the big hitter in the game, going 2-3 with both hits being doubles. This centerfield battle is heating up with Gomez playing very well and Span starting to hit a little better. Michael Cuddyer and Garrett Jones each collected hits as well.

Away from the game, the players that stayed back held practice. Most of the key guys, Morneau, Young and Mauer, didn’t travel so they got hitting and other things done back at the Fort. The big key on the day however was away from the hitters and focused completely on The Franchise.

Liriano pitched ten minutes of batting practice which was somewhere around 45 pitches. Afterwards he reported no pain which means he has completed yet another step towards returning to game action. In fact, word is that Liriano could pitch in the game this Friday.

The Twins will play on ESPN tomorrow afternoon, and will send out Kevin Slowey to face off against Ian Kennedy and the New York Yankees.

Thanks for the Liriano news, as well as the news from the "game that never was." I'm naturally optimistic, but this is still great news all around.

...really excited about Liriano. I hope all goes well on Friday so he can keep going and hopefully start with the Twins and not in AAA.
