In the first article of the “On Pace“ series, we went over how the hitters are projected to fare at season’s end. Some of the numbers were surprising, and if you haven’t given it a look, make sure to do so.
Now, it’s time to look at how the team’s pitching staff looks to fare at season’s end.
** Livan Hernandez is on pace for a record of 16-8, and a total of 211 innings pitched. The big number that he is on pace for however is the 300 hits allowed mark.
** Scott Baker is on pace for an 8-4 record and just 126 innings pitched due to his injuries early on. In addition to these projections, he is also on pace for 104 strikeouts and just 24 walks.
** Glen Perkins is on pace for an 8-4 record and 116 innings pitched. He is also on pace to make 20 starts and strikeout 62 batters.
** Kevin Slowey is on pace to go 8-12 on the season and pitch 126 innings over the course of 22 starts. He is also projected to strikeout 92 hitters and walk just 18.
** Nick Blackburn is on pace for a solid 12-8 record and to make 32 starts. If he keeps up his solid performances and stays healthy, he is also on pace to get near the 200 innings mark with 194.
** Boof Bonser is one pace for a 6-12 record and 154 innings pitch. He likely won’t get either of those projections now that he is in the bullpen. If he records six more losses, then something is wrong with the team’s management.
** Brian Bass is on pace to pitch 102 innings out of the bullpen in long relief. He is also on pace to go 6-4 and strikeout 46 batters.
** Jesse Crain is on pace to pitch in 62 games and a total of 66 innings. If he stays healthy, he is projected to strikeout 52 batters and pickup 18 holds for the Twins.
** Dennys Reyes is on pace to pitch in 74 games for the Twins and go 46 innings. He is also on pace for 24 strikeouts and 14 holds.
** Craig Breslow is on pace to pitch in 33 games for the Twins and strikeout 33 batters. He is also on pace for a stellar 1.47 ERA if he continues to pitch well.
** Matt Guerrier is on pace to pitch in 76 games and 82 innings for the Twins. He is also projected to have a record of 6-4 with 54 strikeouts and 18 holds.
** Joe Nathan is on pace to pitch in 62 games and 66 innings for the Twins. He is also projected to strikeout 74 batters and record an impressive 44 saves.
Due to being let go, sent down or injured, the following players were not included: Juan Rincon, Pat Neshek, and Bobby Korecky.
