Losing Control E-mail

While the White Sox continue to win, the Twins continue to lose. Over the past week, they’ve went from being just a half-game out of first to three and a half out with a 5-4 loss to the Indians in the series opener.

In the fifth straight loss, the Twins lost more than a game, they also may have lost centerfielder Carlos Gomez for some time. Gomez attempted to make a running catch and after crashing into the wall, was taken off the field on a stretcher. He has been diagnosed with a back injury, but there is no other news on his status.

Sure Gomez has been terrible at the plate in the past month, but since moving to the nine spot he has really improved. Not only that, but Gomez is a huge energy guy for the team, whether he is making a good play or a bonehead one.

Pitching wise, Hernandez did a solid job after allowing five runs in the first two innings. What looked like a short outing for Livan turned into a complete game as he settled down and completed eight innings for the Twins.

Unfortunately for him the Twins were going against one of the American League’s best pitchers, Cliff Lee. He was solid through eight innings holding the Twins to just two runs. They almost got back into the game after he exited when Morneau hit a two-run homerun in the ninth.

They couldn’t get anything else across in the ninth however and dropped their fifth straight. A Sox win over Detroit pushed them to three and a half back in the division, and if they can’t do some damage control soon, the four-game set with Chicago starting Monday won’t mean nearly as much as it did a week ago.
