Game Ten: Kansas City Royals E-mail

The Twins offense came alive in the early innings of the series opener against Kansas City, and the Twins never looked back, winning by a final of 5-0. Livan Hernandez turned in yet another solid outing, and could have possibly pitched a complete game had it not been for the cold weather. With the win, the Twins are now at .500 on the season with an overall record of 5-5.

Livan Hernandez has looked great through his first two starts of the season, but his third was easily his best thus far. Hernandez lasted seven innings allowing seven hits, one walk and no runs while also collecting three strikeouts. With the win, Hernandez is now 3-0 on the season with a 2.57 ERA.

After Hernandez, the bullpen picked up the final two innings, and looked solid. Jesse Crain was on for the eighth, and had a quick one-two-three inning thanks in part to an outfield assist by Span and more so a bonehead error by Billy Butler. The ninth went to Joe Nathan in a no-save opportunity, and he looked just as good as he has in his first three games. Nathan breezed through the first two batters and then allowed a double to Buck. He retired the next batter and ended the outing with one strikeout.

The offense started where they finished on Wednesday, and the young guys lead the team to victory. Carlos Gomez went 2-5 on the day with another two-run double and his first major league triple. In his outs, Gomez still hit the ball hard, hitting a laser to leftfield in his last at-bat. Possibly more impressive than Gomez was Matt Tolbert. Receiving another start at short, Tolbert delivered. Overall, Tolbert was 3-4 with an RBI and a walk. Justin Morneau hit his third homerun of the season and Denard Span collected his first major league RBI.
