Game 6: Kansas City Royals E-mail

On a rare Saturday day-game at the Metrodome, the Twins managed to secure their first series win of the season knocking off the Royals 6-4. Livan Hernandez made his second start, and pitched well for his second win of the season. Meanwhile, after falling behind early, the Twins made the comeback and took the game thanks to a big hit from Justin Morneau.

Hernandez was lights-out in his first outing of the season, and hardly needed any pitches to breeze through seven innings. Today was much of the same as Hernandez pitched seven innings with just seventy-four pitches. Livan's final line was seven innings, seven hits, four runs and two strikeouts. With the win, Hernandez is now 2-0 on the season with a 3.86 ERA.

The last two innings went to Matt Guerrier and Joe Nathan. Guerrier collected two quick outs in the eighth, and then got the final out after an infield hit and an error by Adam Everett. Joe Nathan came on for the third time and picked up one strikeout to receive his third save in as many tries.

The offense scored six runs on the game with seven hits thanks in big part to Justin Morneau. Although Morneau had just one hit coming in, he still kept swinging and went 2-4 with a huge three-run homerun to give the Twins the lead in the fourth and then a double later in the game to extend the lead. Matt Tolbert also had another solid game going 2-4 with two runs scored. The other three hits came from Delmon Young, Craig Monroe (first of the season) and Jason Kubel.
