Game 16: Twins 3, Rays 7 E-mail

Summary:
The Twins lost to the Rays 7-3, and are now 0-3 in series sweep games. They have missed their chance to get a sweep twice against the Royals and now once against the Rays. With the loss, they are 7-9 overall on the season and will host the Cleveland Indians this weekend for three games.

Boof Bonser wasn't bad through four innings, allowing just three runs. But when the fifth inning rolled around, he got hit hard for four runs. Bonser's final line was four innings, seven hits, seven runs and two walks. He picked up the loss and is now 1-3 on the season with a 4.70 ERA. With Mulvey pitching solid at AAA, and Slowey getting closer to a comeback, you have to wonder if Bonser will soon be the odd man out.

The bullpen picked up the final innings, and pitched solid. Bass relieved Bonser in the fifth, but recorded just one out and threw just fourteen pitches before leaving with a strained back (day-to-day). Matt Guerrier stepped in, and finally pitched some solid baseball. Guerrier went 3.2 innings allowing just three hits and no runs while picking up three strikeouts. The final inning of work went to Pat Neshek and he too had a solid outing allowing no hits or runs.

The offense scored three times in three separate innings. It was a story of the top of the lineup as just hitters one through five collected hits while the others provided no production. Carlos Gomez collected two more hits to continue his recent hot streak. He is now hitting .275 on the season with the past two games. Filling in for Everett, Matt Tolbert also continued to hit. He went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Joe Mauer and Delmon Young collected the other two RBI hits, and Justin Morneau was the other player to collect multiple hits on the night going 2-3.

Player of the Game:
Matt Guerrier- Guerrier picked up the slack from Bonser and helped the Twins through the Bass injury with 3.2 solid innings. If not for him, the Twins would have wasted their bullpen on a lost game.
