While the grind of the NBA is in full swing, games like these might go unnoticed. What once was a potential NBA Finals preview is now just Miami versus San Antonio. The game should have been billed as Dwyane Wade versus the Big Three of San Antonio, because that’s the perception each team provides. Is Miami more than Wade? Absolutely, much like the Spurs are more than just Duncan, Parker and Ginobili, but this is what the paying public recognizes.

That’s also why Ginobili’s block of the Dwyane Wade lay up was one of the memorable plays from last night’s game. Furthermore, when a game is decided by seven points (91-84), missed or blocked lay ups can make all the difference in the world.

Now that’s the way you end your collegiate career: By scoring the game-winning touchdown that catapults your team to a Fiesta Bowl victory. Not only that, but your touchdown puts Texas in the thick of the National Championship decision and it goes a long way towards relieving any hard feelings leftover from the Michael Crabtree incident.

Gators Trash Talk

The BCS Championship Game is on Thursday, and now that most of the minor bowl games are out of the way, the national focus is turning to all Oklahoma Sooners/Florida Gators, all of the time, especially when it comes to trash talking. Is there an easier way to get the media’s attention than when players say something “negative” about an opposing team?

Who’s Number 1? Pitt, That’s Who!

Pitt Panthers

Quick, who is the leading scorer for the number one team in college basketball? If you said Tyler Hansbrough for North Carolina, you’d be wrong on both fronts. First, the Tar Heels are no longer the number one team in the country, and second, Hansbrough does not play for the Pitt Panthers. If you answered Sam Young of the Pittsburgh Panthers, you’d be correct because not only does Young play for the Panthers, Pitt is also the top-ranked team in the country, thanks to Carolina’s loss to Boston College yesterday.

Chris Clemons Destroys Tarvais Jackson

So which is the better exclamation point? The Chris Clemons stiff-arm or the absolute burial of Tarvaris Jackson? Both helped the Philadelphia defense score a touchdown, although, the points were much more of a necessity against Minnesota than they were against Dallas. It’s hard to pick a winner because both plays are indeed memorable, but since a playoff win is more valuable than a regular season win — even if said regular season win catapulted your team to the playoffs — I think I’m picking the Jackson burial as being the most important out of the two.

Edgar Sosa Sends Kentucky Home

I don’t really care if this comes across as being a sore loser, so here goes: I guess every dog does get their day. Just ask the pedestrian Edgar Sosa and his “hey, look what I just pulled out of my ass” game-winning three-point basket against rival Kentucky yesterday. The basket gave the Cardinals an evidently much-needed victory, judging by the accolades being piled on Sosa. Um, where was the love before yesterday’s game, Cardinal fans?

I guess it’s hard to have a lot of love for a guard who, before yesterday’s surprising turn of luck, was averaging a whopping five points while shooting a red-hot 23 percent from behind the 3-point line. Nevertheless, to the victor goes the spoils and thanks to Sosa’s once-in-a-lifetime shot, the Cardinals came away the win.
