Tonight, Carlos Gomez will get a well deserved rest. Gomez has struggled recently at the plate with more strikeouts and not very good at bats. In the past 45 ABs, he has only 6 hits (0 walks), 1 RBI and 13 strikeouts. His batting average in that span is a paltry .133...something you do not want in your leadoff hitter. While Gomez has not done well at the plate he has picked it up defensively with nice running catches and a beautiful game-saving catch in the top of the ninth against the Indians. However, Gomez needed this rest in order to get back on track.
With this rest it should clear Gomez's head and maybe we will see Gomez get back on track with a few singles within the next few games to raise his average and confidence. So, tonight, Span starts in his stead.
I have just compared Gomez's win-loss record vs. Span's win-loss record. Interesting statistics! I also will include the Twins record when the start together. These are only the games in which they start-even if they get substituted out, I still give the win or loss to them.
Go-Go's win-loss record when he starts:
6 wins - 4 losses
Span's win loss record:
2 wins - 4 losses
When Both start:
2 wins - 1 loss
Interesting isn't it? So, apparently Gomez isn't going to make much difference in the number of wins or losses the club will suffer this season.
But, from where I sit, I see the same number of losses whether it is Gomez or Span so that part of the controversy is right, but, look at the number of wins. Gomez has 4 more wins than Span does.
As I have said before, Gomez brings an electricity to the ballclub and his defense is better than Span's, no matter how much you try to deny it. Gomez has made running catches, bang into the wall catch, cutting balls off in the gap, diving catches, throwing runners out. What has Span done? A few running catches, no diving catches, no crash into the wall catch, one runner thrown out.
So, who would you prefer? Gomez or Span? Who would you rather watch? Span or Gomez? Who will bring more wins to the club? Gomez or Span?
With all of the speculation over the Minnesota Twins starting rotation being up for grabs, one major question to answer is, should Francisco Liriano be deemed the “Franchise” now or should this tag go to Delmon Young, Joe Mauer, Michael Cuddyer (new team leader) or Justin Morneau?
For those of you who haven’t seen the Twins Territory commercial that aired on the Super Bowl and was created by Periscope, who really is the face of the Twins these days?
With Torii Hunter gone, who was the clear leader in the clubhouse as well as Mr. Cy Young Santana gone, which Twin will take over as the identity and leader that this club needs for 2008 as well as the future? My guess is that it will be one of the three gentleman featured in the Twins Territory clip, as much as I wish it was TK, that is not who I’m referring to.
Who do you think the Twins need to be the identity of the team this year?
Today is the best day of Spring Training. The Twin's play against the Red Sox at 7:05 pm ET and it is being broadcast on MLB TV.
I'm not yet sure who the twins will start, although Joe Mauer will not be catching.
Dice-K will be starting for the BoSox. Their other starters include: Kevin Youkilis, Pedroia, Julio Lugo, Mike Lowell, Manny Ramirez, Coco Crisp and Bobby Kielty.
This is the first of three consecutive games against the Red Sox for the Twins, which all should be exciting cross-town contests. If you have MLB TV (which I highly recommend) make sure to catch these games.
(You can also watch Johan's debut for the Mets today too. Gag. Not sure that I could quite stomach that sight yet.)
I love many of the new features that we’ve added to Twins Territory, and I feel that they can all help make us into a bigger and better Twins community.
With that said, one of my favorite features, more like a feature within a feature, is the ability for all members of the site to post a FanBlog.
This feature has the chance to go a long way, but can only do so if readers become involved, sign up and then proceed to use their very own FanBlog. The blog is your own. It appears within your user profile and on your very own blog. In addition, all blogs by all users are compiled into one big member blog which can be found on the Clubhouse drop-down menu.
As you can probably tell, this feature is pretty cool and allows quite a bit. It is pretty easy to post a member blog, but if you need some tips, you can follow our steps.
